Ashley Young returns to Aston Villa with free transfer from Internazionale | Aston Villa
Ashley Young joined Aston Villa for free from Internazionale. The 35-year-old all-rounder, who scored 38 goals in 190 appearances for Villa between 2007 and 2011, has signed a one-year contract.
“It’s amazing to be back – I feel like I haven’t left,” he told VillaTV. “I’m just thrilled to be back, to see some old faces, to be back on the training ground, to see the facilities and how well they’ve grown. You can see how far the club has evolved since my time and I’m just ready to get down to business.
Young, who won 39 caps in England and traveled to Euro 2012 and the 2018 World Cup, joined Villa from Watford before leaving for Manchester United. He won the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League at United before joining Inter, where he won Serie A last season, in January 2020.
Young, who can operate from the back or the wing, has made 369 Premier League appearances. “When I heard about Aston Villa’s interest, it was straight to my agent: ‘Make a deal, whatever you can, make a deal,'” he said.
“I think someone said [about me], ‘He’s coming to the end of his career’, ‘He doesn’t have that hunger anymore’, ‘He’s just going for a swan song’ … It’s not me at all. I still have this winning mentality, this winning attitude, this desire and this hunger to go and win.
