Aston Villa 2-1 Leicester City: Remi Allen gives victory to Villa

Remi Allen marked his debut at Aston Villa by scoring the game-winning goal against former club Leicester City in a captivating Women’s Super League game.
Natasha Flint had put the newly promoted Leicester City in front after a mistake by goalkeeper Hannah Hampton.
Villa turned the tide with two goals in the space of 60 seconds.
Sarah Mayling equalized with a spectacular free kick before skipper Allen hit the winner from close range to give Carla Ward’s side three points.
Leicester took the lead in the 39th minute and built on their lead.
Hampton had already made a spectacular save to keep Flint out but found herself holding her head in her hands after allowing the Leicester player to spin her gloves and into the net.
Villa was much more powerful after the break and equalized thanks to Mayling’s magnificent set-piece.
Home fans were still celebrating when Allen made it 2-1, but were scared when substitute Lachante Paul was denied the equalizer by Hampton in stoppage time.
As Villa now prepares for a game at West Ham on September 11, Leicester will look to learn lessons from their first game in the England top flight.
On this evidence, the Foxes have a lot to offer this season.
Remi Allen of Aston Villa: “We’re not happy with the performance. But losing 1-0 and then scoring two quick goals shows the character and the mentality of this group.
“We had a bit of a pounding at half-time, which I think we deserved. We hit our goals and took advantage of our chance a bit, but you need it.
“I played this scenario in my head several times without ever thinking that it would become a reality [scoring the winner against former club]. It’s an incredible feeling. “
Leicester boss Jonathan Morgan: “The turning point was the free kick [equaliser]. In my opinion it was not a free kick, but it’s not about the free kick given, but how our players handled it.
“60 seconds of madness cost us.
“Natasha Flint can play for England in my opinion. She’s important to us and that will give her more confidence.”
