Aston Villa announced last week that the club had reached an agreement with Sevilla for the transfer of defender Diego Carlos.
Fabrizio Romano reported Thursday morning that Villa were making progress in talks with Sevilla and less than half an hour later the club announced that an agreement had been reached.
The 29-year-old Brazilian made 102 La Liga appearances for Sevilla after joining in the summer of 2019. In 2021-22, he anchored the league’s best defense and propelled the club to a fourth-place finish.

In his first season with Sevilla (2019-20), the club won their record sixth UEFA Europa League title.
A product of Desportivo Brasil, Carlos moved to Estoril in Portugal in 2014 and then to Nantes in France in 2016.
Carlos earned his first senior call-up for Brazil in November 2020 for a pair of World Cup qualifiers without seeing playing time.
He helped the Brazilian Olympic team win gold at the 2020 Summer Olympics alongside future Villa teammate Douglas Luiz.
Carlos is Villa’s third signing this summer having previously agreed terms with Philippe Coutinho and Boubacar Kamara. The defender is expected to undergo a medical soon and finalize his personal terms.
