Aston Villa will not make a signing deadline with incoming deals until the summer.
Reports by Sky Sports’ Rob Dorsett on Friday afternoon suggested Villa were no longer pursuing January transfer window deals and would instead reignite their search for a defensive midfielder in the summer window.
The club were interested in Uruguayan midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur, but no deal was reached. Monday, Bentancur was unveiled as Tottenham Hotspur player, arriving on a permanent contract from Juventus of Serie A.
Villa were also interested in signing Yves Bissouma from Brighton, who has a year and a half left on his current deal. Brighton’s asking price for the Malian’s services was in the region of £45million which inevitably put Villa off.
Some members of the club believe the defensive midfielder could be cheaper this summer.
The club were busy at the start of the window, securing deals for Phillipe Coutinho, Lucas Digne and Robin Olsen. Calum Chambers joined Arsenal at the end of last week.
However, Villa are expected to complete a number of outgoing loan deals before Friday night’s deadline. Matt Targett looks set to join Newcastle on a short-term loan, and caretaker Jed Steer is rumored to join Luton Town of the Championship.
Kaine Kesler Hayden will spend the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign with League One MK Dons.
