Aston Villa star set to make England World Cup squad despite Southgate claim

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jermaine Jenas believes Aston Villa star Jacob Ramsey will be part of Gareth Southgate’s 23-man England squad for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
The Villa Academy graduate has been hugely impressed with his performances this season under Steven Gerrard and former manager Dean Smith. But the 20-year-old is yet to get an international call-up from the Three Lions boss.
But if he wants to maintain his performance until Southgate names his final team, he could well be on the plane to Qatar. And potentially alongside Villa duo Ollie Watkins and Tyrone Mings.

Watkins and Mings both scored in England’s recent 3-0 win over the Ivory Coast at Wembley on Tuesday and are huge contenders to earn a place in Southgate’s World Cup squad.
The England boss was recently asked if Ramsey entered into his thinking when announcing his squad for last month’s friendlies. “Yes, absolutely, I think Jacob is doing very well. I think at the moment Conor Gallagher is slightly ahead,” the Three Lions boss said.
“They’re both pushing Jude (Bellingham), who’s been in our team for a while. Those two are really pushing Jude, there’s no doubt about it, and also pushing some of the older players in that group.”
And Jenas, who hosted the Qatar 2022 World Cup draw on Friday, said: “I’m in Qatar for the World Cup draw and I believe this boy [Jacob Ramsey] will be on the flight here at the end of the year!” he captioned a video posted on his TikTok.
