Bangor will say goodbye to flavored tobacco, legally this time
Remember when Bangor banned flavored tobacco sales to take effect June 1st.
And then we found out they didn’t follow the rules, so they had to overturn the ban.
Well now he is about to legally ban flavored tobacco in the city of Bangor.
I guess the thinking is that you have to start somewhere, but unless everyone in the surrounding towns and communities is on the same page, it seems like it might be less effective than thought originally. Just drive to a nearby town.
But that’s another discussion for another day.
Bangor City Council had to repeal the ordinance banning the sale of flavored tobacco after failing to properly notify affected businesses of the new rule.
Well, now they have followed state law that requires 30 days notice be given to businesses licensed to sell tobacco that they are implementing an order stricter than state law.
And they’re going to implement that order, and they’ve now sent out a notification to those who needed to know.
The ordinance will be presented at City Hall on July 25e.
Comments will be accepted at the August 2 meetingsn/a and August 8e.
Also, flavored tobacco should no longer be sold in Bangor businesses.
