Well, earlier today Aston Villa announced the appointment of Gerrard for a three and a half year contract.

Smith received his P45 from the Villans after overseeing five straight losses and just two wins in his last ten games.
Aston Villa wasted no time offloading the 50-year-old and Gerrard was quickly appointed to replace him.
Was Aston Villa right to replace Dean Smith with Steven Gerrard?
In our opinion, it was a very tough decision on Aston Villa’s part.
Smith had done wonders at Villa Park to bring Villans back from the middle of the league to the Premier League.
He also helped oversee the development of a £ 100million player and brought Aston Villa’s identity back to the club.
As a childhood fan of Aston Villa, everything Smith did that was right at Villa Park had this very special feeling, because he and the fan base were one.
Gerrard will be a success, in our opinion, as he has proven to be a shrewd tactician and manager of men at Rangers.
However, that doesn’t make Aston Villa’s decision to take out Smith any less ruthless.
We don’t necessarily think it was a “dreadful” decision like Bannan does, but it certainly showed that everything you’ve done in the past doesn’t mean anything.
Without a doubt, football management is one of the most ruthless industries around today, as Smith knows better than anyone.
