Everton slam Anwar El Ghazi transfer as Aston Villa star makes frustrating start
Former Everton defender Michael Ball has questioned why his former club signed Anwar El Ghazi from Aston Villa in January.
The 26-year-old winger is yet to start for the Toffees and has seen just nine minutes of action since arriving at Goodison Park in January.
El Ghazi signed for Everton under former boss Rafa Benitez but was sacked just three days after the Dutchman joined Villa on loan until the end of the season.
Frank Lampard has been named Everton’s new boss before the end of the month but is unlikely to give El Ghazi enough minutes on the pitch to have the kind of impact that will inspire the Blues to bring him on. sign definitively in the summer.
And the former Everton Ball left-back believes signing El Ghazi was somewhat unnecessary.
“Anwar El Ghazi was brought to the club due to Farhad (Everton owner Moshiri) having a close relationship with a super-agent,” Ball wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.
“The same thing happened last season as well.
“Josh King was brought in on deadline day but Carlo Ancelotti hardly gave him playing time.
“What’s the point of bringing in players who aren’t going to play and just sit on the bench?”
