Expert urges Aston Villa to buy promising midfielder for ‘substantial fee’
Norwich City midfielder Todd Cantwell has attracted interest from other Premier League clubs.
During the 2020/21 Championship campaign, Cantwell has made 33 appearances out of 46 possible outings.
Cantwell is the product of the Norwich academy after joining the Under-10 level before making his first-team debut in January 2018 in an FA Cup match against Chelsea.
With a year remaining on his contract, the clubs have kept an eye on the youngster’s situation in the newly promoted Premier League squad.
The Canaries have the option of extending it for another year, if their Premier League campaign goes well.
Tottenham Hotspur had previously shown interest in Cantwell, the Spurs have reportedly written a screening report on the attacking midfielder.
Aston Villa, which has been active during this transfer window, involving Emiliano Buendia, Ashley Young, Leon Bailey and Danny Ings, has been heavily linked with Cantwell.
And former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan backed the Villans to sign Cantwell for a “substantial fee”.

Whelan told Football Insider, “We know he’s a very talented young player. You are also renewing this partnership with Buendia.
“The two of them know each other very well so that this communication and telepathic play between them comes directly into play. You will see it from day one.
“A highly rated young player that other teams have looked at. Again, they are wasting no time. If they want this player, they will go and get him and they have done so so far this summer.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if they used some of Jack Grealish’s money to strengthen this midfielder again with Todd Cantwell.”
