John McGinn makes ‘you’re on’ transfer request as Aston Villa prepare for ax wielding
John McGinn said he and his teammates Aston Villa are fully aware that Steven Gerrard will be ruthless in the transfer market if performance does not improve in the final weeks of the season.
Villa are currently on their longest losing streak since Dean Smith was sacked for losing five games in a row in November. Gerrard’s men are now in the midst of a four-game losing streak with seven games of the campaign remaining.
The 4-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur last time was a bruising experience for head coach Gerrard, and it came after defeats to West Ham, Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Speaking before the latest defeat, McGinn has recognized that the ambition of the club competition for European football means that each member of the Villa team must be on top of their game to avoid being replaced in the summer window.

McGinn told Sky Sports: “They have a project here where they will continue to improve If you do not, you are essentially absent and they will bring someone else, we are all aware..
“It’s good as a player that they have that ambition, they share the ambition of myself and others there. We have to be on our game to keep the shirt. I’m sure there’s will have investments this summer, in the next window, until we get to where we want to go, which is Europe every year, where this club belongs.”
Villa are reportedly interested in signing a new holding midfielder, while reinforcements and defensive forwards will also be considered. Kalvin Phillips and Yves Bissouma top Gerrard wishlist, as reports in Germany claim Borussia Möchengladbach Matthias Ginter is too much on the club’s radar.
