Leeds United have to pay ‘a lot of money’ to beat Aston Villa to transfer
Aston Villa are linked with a move from Liverpool defender Neco Williams with the Welsh international who is set to leave Anfield this summer.
Williams, who is currently serving in Wales at Euro 2020, has limited himself to playing a replacement role for Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool for the past two seasons.
So the 20-year-old is believed to be keen to move away from the Reds to secure Premier League first-team football.
In addition to Villa, Leeds United, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Southampton are reportedly interested in the right-back this summer.
Leeds secured a place in the first half after being promoted from the Championship last year and are keen to strengthen Marcelo Bielsa’s side ahead of the next term.
Former Premier League striker Kevin Campbell believes Williams would be a smart signing for Whites but questioned Liverpool’s £ 10million asking price.
“I think he would be a good addition to this Leeds side, but he hasn’t played a lot of games when you think about it,” said the ex-Everton man. Football insider.
âI know he’s a Welsh international but £ 10million is a lot of money for a player who has barely played for his club, especially during the pandemic.
âLiverpool don’t want to give the youngster any false hope. He’s ready to play week after week and Liverpool have two of the best full-backs in the league so you can’t see how he would really have an opportunity.
“To be honest I think it’s time for him to leave and for Liverpool to cash in.”
Villa are among the clubs that have shown interest in Williams over the past 12 months.
Elmohamady provided reinforcement to first-choice right-back Matty Cash while Taylor did the same on the opposite flank behind Matt Targett.
But Ashley Young’s arrival on a free transfer means a Villa push for Williams is unlikely, with Smith now having two quality options on the right side of his defense.
There is also Frédéric Guilbert to add to the equation. The Frenchman must return from his loan with the Strasbourg Ligue 1 team. 18-year-old Kaine Kesler is also highly regarded by the Villa staff.
