Leon Bailey dedicates Aston Villa’s first goal to his friend Steffie Gregg
Leon Bailey scored his first goal for Aston Villa and dedicated the stunner to his late friend Steffie Gregg.
Since joining Aston Villa from Bayer Leverkusen for around £ 30million, all eyes have been on the Jamaican professional footballer. On Saturday 18 September he scored his first goal for the English Premier League club and would have had a second had it not been scored against his own side against Everton.
Sharing an image on his IG page, Bailey wrote, “This one was for you! Always think about yourself every day. I love you forever sister.
Like Raheem Sterling, Leon Bailey and late Jamaican socialite Steffie Gregg were close friends for years. After scoring a stain with his left foot in the 74th minute, Baily took off his jersey to reveal his undershirt with the words “Forever Love Steffie Gregg” on it.
Manchester City striker Raheem Sterling had a similar message on his shirt during a game earlier this month when he also scored a stunner to help England win their World Cup qualifying game against Hungary 4-0.
Steffie Gregg died earlier this month following a battle with Covid. She reportedly had lupus which caused complications with the deadly virus. Among the many celebrities who have paid tribute to him is his uncle Rvssian who shared his grief on Instagram after his death.
Not only was she well known in the Jamaican entertainment scene, but Steffie was also an avid gamer who had huge success on Twitch. His father is a former racing car driver and businessman Gary Gregg and his brother, Kyle “Speedy” Gregg, is a current racing driver.
