Liverpool target Carney Chukwuemeka kicked out of Aston Villa tour
Aston Villa have left Carney Chukwuemeka out of their pre-season tour, according to reports. Liverpool supposedly want the player.
It comes from Athletic. They claim Aston Villa haven’t taken Carney Chukwuemeka with them on a pre-season tour because his future hangs in the balance.
The youngster’s contract will expire soon and although Villa have an offer on the table, he hasn’t signed it yet. This suggests that Chukwuemeka sees his future away from Villa Park.
fabrice romano contains quotes from Steven Gerrard on the situation and it doesn’t look good for the future of Chukwuemeka Villa.
“Carney hasn’t signed a contract offer that’s been in place for quite some time,” Gerrard said. “I decided the best thing would be to continue his training program.”

This is almost certainly of interest to Liverpool, who are believed to have eyes on Chukwuemeka. That’s according to the Guardian at the end of last year, anyway – but we imagine most top clubs are looking.
After all, Chukwuemeka has long had a solid reputation as a young player and played 12 times in the Premier League last season. That’s a fair amount for an 18-year-old – even though the minutes are only 295.
Still, those around the player rate him incredibly well. Ollie Watkins thinks Chukwuemeka could become an incredible player. Villa CEO Christian Purslow – ex-Liverpool, of course – rated the player as England’s best 16-year-old two years ago.
And so if Chukwumeka is now set to leave, we expect Liverpool to get involved. They won’t be the only ones though and the competition could be quite fierce here.
We’re also not convinced that Chukwuemeka would even play semi-regularly at Anfield at the moment. Surely that limits the Reds’ chances of getting him because letting this Villa side barely play doesn’t make sense.
One to watch, then, but certainly not a simple signing.
