Louie Barry, on loan at Aston Villa, thinks Swindon Town still have a chance of playing in the play-offs
SWINDON Town winger Louie Barry believes victory over Harrogate Town on Friday made a notable difference to the club’s promotion aspirations, despite only gaining a place in League Two.
The Aston Villa loanee scored the first two goals of the match before Charlton Athletic loanee Josh Davison netted a second-half brace to cap a 4-1 win.
A few favorable results elsewhere have cut the gap to the top seven in half, and Swindon could head into the final four games of the season inside the play-offs one game less if they take three points against Leyton Orient on Monday . .
Asked if anything changed from the players’ perspective after the win, Barry said: “I feel like it changes because if we hadn’t picked up any points – or only picked up a point against Harrogate – I think we still would have had a chance, but he would have had less of a chance (of making the play-offs).
“We still have a game in progress, and if we win it, we go to the play-offs.
“I think we’re still in it, and if we win every game, we have a very, very good chance. And I feel like we can win every game.
While fans will be looking at further results over the next few weeks and speculating on Town’s immediate future, the 18-year-old says he and his team-mates will only be focused on winning the next game to ensure a chance of promotion.
Barry echoed his head coach’s comments about the deserved promotion and vowed to leave nothing for it to happen.
He said, “You have to focus on yourself. We cannot control anything else or any other outcome. We can only control what we do.
“We have to pick up all the points we can, and if we do and we don’t, we can hold our heads up high and say we did our best.
“But I honestly think we can win every game, and if we do we will get promoted this season.
“I think as a team we are much better than League Two. I think we need to be in Ligue 1 or even higher because of the talent we have in the team.
“I think we deserve to be promoted this season, and we will give everything for that.”
