Manchester United fans have Phil Jones v Aston Villa theory after emotional comments
Manchester United fans are calling on Phil Jones to keep his place on the side after the defender gave a touching interview about his return to action.
Jones was a surprise inclusion for United on Monday as he began the 1-0 defeat to Wolves, making his first appearance for the club in nearly two years.
The 29-year-old impressed alongside Raphael Varane and almost made the perfect comeback, only for Joao Moutinho’s late goal which spoiled the party.
Nonetheless, Jones was a timely reminder of his abilities to supporters and interim boss Ralf Rangnick after a long period of injury.
“You know I spent so much time off the field and off the squad. It has been horrible at times, but it’s nice to be back with the guys,” Jones said in an interview with the club.

“I feel like a footballer again and feel the ball at your feet, the rain and the grass, it’s just a great feeling.
“As soon as you come out I think I was on the bench for West Ham in the cup, even for a cup game, Old Trafford was absolutely packed and it was just – I was sitting on the bench and I thought “god I” I missed that “.
“I missed that feeling of being involved and the stadium and the fans there, the excitement, the buzz. Everything came back right away.
“It’s difficult when a player is away for so long for some reason. All I will say is that every time I represent this club and put on the jersey, I give my absolute best and I put my blood, sweat and tears in everything I do for this club. .
Jones’ interview was widely praised by United fans, with many replies calling on the defender to retain his place in the squad for Monday’s FA Cup fixture against Aston Villa.
Jones’ chances of retaining his place in the United squad on Monday may have improved after Rangnick revealed on Friday that his side still have injury issues at the back.
Harry Maguire has yet to recover from the issue that kept him away from Monday’s loss to Wolves, despite Victor Lindelof returning to training after contracting Covid-19.
Eric Bailly meanwhile traveled to Cameroon for the Africa Cup of Nations, meaning he will be out for at least the next two weeks, which could leave the door open for Jones.
