Matt Targett comments on Aston Villa future as he answers Newcastle transfer question

Matt Targett says he’s “really enjoying” his time at Newcastle United, but the Aston Villa loanee remains coy about a potential permanent move to St. James’ Park this summer.
The 26-year-old has impressed in his first two starts for Newcastle, helping Eddie Howe’s side to four points in matches against Everton and West Ham.
The Magpies are unbeaten in their last five Premier League games and have won three of their last four, with Targett set to further improve Newcastle’s defensive structure in the final months of the campaign.
He has decided to leave Villa following the £25million arrival of Lucas Digne from Everton last month, but has yet to confirm his Villa Park career is over.
Asked by the club’s internal media ahead of Saturday’s clash at Brentford, the left-back did not dismiss the idea of joining Newcastle permanently, but urged his immediate focus on the battle for survival.
“He’s just focused here and now at the moment,” Targett told NUFC TV.
“I only focus on my own performances and helping the team make sure we don’t get relegated. That’s the most important thing.
“Whatever happens after that happens. I’m really enjoying my time here.”
