RESIDENTS of Ross’s retirement homes came together to raise over £ 500 for charity at a busy morning coffee last week.

Staff and residents at Bernard Hackett Court near Tudorville invited their friends and family to Coffee Morning last Wednesday (October 13) to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and Cancer Research UK.

About 40 people attended the fundraiser, which included homemade cakes and sweet treats and a raffle of prizes donated by local businesses.

Three residents baked fresh cakes for the event, including a Victoria Sandwich, Lemon Coconut Platter, Orange Platter, and Coffee Nut Cake, complemented by a range of purchased treats. at the store.

A daughter of one of the residents “kindly” took care of collecting prizes at local stores, including Tudor Sweets, the Cook Shop, Mountain Warehouse, Boots, Thorntons, Spar, Gillman’s, Holland & Barrett, Morrisons and The Flowered house.

The top prize was a stainless steel kettle donated by Gillman’s, and there were three token prizes and a “pretty” basket of houseplants from The Flower House.

There were also sweets, chocolates, boxes of cookies, a beautiful soft porcelain mug, and “many” bottles of wine.

In total, there were 45 awards, many of which were donated by residents of the court.

Bernard Hackett Court is a complex of 41 apartments for retirees over 55 years old.

Director Elaine Summers described residents’ efforts to raise £ 550, of which £ 500 went to Macmillan Cancer Support and £ 50 to Cancer Research, as “quite a feat” given the small number of residents.

She said: “I am proud to be the manager of Bernard Hackett Court, my residents are a fantastic group of people.”

Residents sent a letter to the Gazette thanking all of the participants and donating prizes to the raffle.

The letter read: “To the Merchants of Ross on Wye, we would like to thank you for the incredible prizes you have given to the raffle we were hosting at our Macmillan Coffee Morning at Bernard Hackett Court on October 13th.

“Thank you also to all the residents, families and friends who came to the coffee morning.”
