Newcastle fight Aston Villa for ‘fast, strong and powerful’ PL ace
Newcastle are considering a deal for Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe with manager Steve Bruce, a big fan of his former Aston Villa youngster, as reported Athleticism.
He may have been overshadowed by the relentless goals of teammate Tammy Abraham, but no one should underestimate the impact Tuanzebe had on an Aston Villa side who secured a promotion to the Premier League in 2018/19 .
And as he wrapped up the season under Dean Smith, it was Bruce who sealed a 12-month contract for England international defender U21, making good use of his contacts at Old Trafford.
“I’m thrilled,” gaffer Geordie said on Villa’s official website at the time. “He has all the makings of a modern day player – he’s fast, strong and powerful.
“(Tuanzebe) can play anywhere in the midfield and anywhere in the back. It will bring rhythm, athleticism and desire. He has a big appetite for gambling.
It remains to be seen whether Bruce will speak in glowing terms about Tuanzebe again by the end of August.
Will Newcastle beat Aston Villa at Tuanzebe?
Man United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is unlikely to stand in his way if Tuanzebe applies for another loan this summer. The 23-year-old has only started a handful of Premier League games in 2020/21 despite Victor Lindelof’s indifferent form.
And The Athletic believe Newcastle are “watching” the situation.
Unsurprisingly, an Aston Villa team running short in central defense has also emerged as a potential destination for a man who knows Villa Park like the back of his hand.
The Midland Giants are looking for someone who can put pressure on Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa – and Tuanzebe fits the bill.
