Pizza Hut in Chingford ‘temporarily closed’ after receiving ZERO food hygiene rating from council with ‘urgent improvement’ required in all areas

A Pizza Hut Delivery store in east London has been forced to close after being given the lowest possible hygiene score by the local council.

The Chingford store at 96 Chingford Mount Road, E4 was visited by Environmental Health Officers from Waltham Forest Council on November 15, 2021.

The surveys revealed that “urgent improvement” was needed in all areas.

The delivery branch was measured against three criteria – hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities, and food safety construction and management.

As a result of the inspection, council officers gave the Pizza Hut Delivery branch the lowest possible food hygiene rating – a zero out of five.

A local resident posted the findings on a Facebook group for Chingford residents, and some were outraged by the discovery.

One customer fumed: “The Council took 58 days to post this while we the public eat it. Disgusting. The last two I’ve had were awful.”

The other two Pizza Huts in the borough were found to be of higher quality, according to recent inspections.

The premises in High Road, Leyton received a 5 out of 5 ‘very good’ rating in November 2020, while the restaurant in High Street, Walthamstow received a 4 out of 5 rating in January 2021.

MyLondon has contacted Waltham Forest Council for more information on the exact findings of environmental health officers at the scene.

A Pizza Hut Delivery spokesperson said: “We take food safety and hygiene very seriously.

“Following an inspection which raised the need for improvements to our Chingford cabin, it has been temporarily closed while we work with the franchisee and an independent food safety consultant to resolve the issues.

“To ensure our cabanas meet our high standards, we provide comprehensive food safety and hygiene training to staff and regularly monitor cabanas to ensure they maintain consistent levels of cleanliness.”
