Plans to open a new restaurant on the Barrow Pizza Hut site
An application has been filed to authorize the opening of a drive-thru branch of the Canadian chain Tim Hortons in the city.
Plans to put up signs for the restaurant chain in Hollywood Retail Park have been submitted to Barrow Council.
They suggest the new restaurant would replace Pizza Hut.
The plans refer to the Pizza Hut space as “vacant”, however, the restaurant is still in operation.
The chain is known for its fresh coffee and baked goods, including donuts, and already has nearly 5,000 outlets worldwide in 14 countries.
The first Tim Hortons in the UK opened in 2017 and there are now 28 outlets with eight more “to come,” according to the company’s website.
According to plans, work to install a drive-thru lane and make changes to the site would take place if permission was granted.
A description of the plan submitted to council said: “Full planning permission for the installation of a drive-thru road and associated engineering work, including minor modifications to parking and maintenance arrangements, the relocation of the garbage store and associated modifications to the landscaping.
“Demolition and modifications to the building and elevations, including cladding and modifications to the parapet roof.
“Advertising consent for replacement signage.”
The drawings submitted to the board show what the menu boards and other signs and screens to be placed outside the restaurant would look like.
People visiting the drive-thru could select their order and pay at a kiosk.
Plans indicate that the number of parking spaces at the restaurant site would be reduced from 20 to 16.
And 26 square meters of the site’s floor space would be lost.
Other nearby fast food restaurants include McDonald’s and KFC, also located in the Hollywood Retail Park.
Burger King is across the road at Hindpool Retail Park.
Initially driving only, it was able to open indoors in May of this year.
Pizza Hut has been approached for comment.
