Steven Gerrard explained ‘crazy’ reason behind Aston Villa transfer decision amid Jose Mourinho update
Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has advised Douglas Luiz to stay at the club despite rumors linking him with a decision to join Jose Mourinho’s Roma side.
Luiz, 24, has reportedly been a target for the Serie A outfit since last summer and Mourinho is reportedly ready to step up his interest in the player following the Italian side’s Europa Conference League success last night.
However, speaking to Football Insider, the former Villa forward Agbonlahor advised Steven Gerrard to keep Luiz at the club this summer, despite signing Boubacar Kamara.

He said: “It’s good to have a free transfer. He’s [Kamara] 22 so could he be the answer to our defensive midfield problem? I hope he is because Douglas Luiz did well but he won’t get Aston Villa where they want to go.
“Villa need a defensive midfielder who can win the ball better. I’m sure that’s what Steven Gerrard has been looking at with Kamara, so hopefully he’s the answer.
“Will Steven Gerrard keep Luiz and keep Nakamba? Because next season is going to be a crazy season. With five substitutes, it’s going to be a crazy season so maybe he wants to keep Luiz around.
“One entry is enough. With the arrival of Kamara, you have Kamara, Luiz, and Nakamba who can all play this role.
