Tottenham in talks with ex-Man Utd and Aston Villa goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini
The 26-year-old spent time in the youth system at Old Trafford and then beyond the 2016-17 season with Villa in the league, making 20 appearances for the Villains.
He has since returned to his native Italy with Atalanta, where he made 89 Serie A appearances and 14 others in European competition.
He failed to secure a first-team spot with Atalanta, with Marco Sportiello competing, and his chances of playing regularly fell further with Juan Musso from Udinese.
Therefore, the Serie A squad are open to a move and Gollini is also interested as he seeks more playing time, despite competing with club captain Hugo Lloris in north London.
Sky Sport Italia reports that the talks are about a loan deal with an option to buy, which could last for one or two seasons.
Gollini’s contract with Atalanta runs until 2023, while Lloris is only under contract for one more season with Spurs and may not sign beyond the end of that term in June 2022.
A deal with the Italian could see Gollini compete with Lloris in the next season before becoming the long-term replacement for the Frenchman who has been at the club since 2008.
Joe Hart is also under contract at Tottenham until 2022 after arriving on a free transfer from Burnley last year.
New Tottenham manager Nuno Espirito Santo admits transfer deals will be tough to pull off this summer, but expects arrivals.
“We have spoken, we are aware that there is a lot of work to be done,” he said.
“It’s not easy, we have to find the right players who can join us.
‘Steve [Hitchen, performance director] and Fabio [Paratici, managing director of football], they do their job, watch the market, I do my work on the training ground and then we exchange ideas. Improving our team is not easy. ‘
