Troy Deeney and Birmingham City take cheeky hit at Aston Villa
This was how it should be.
When Troy Deeney signed for his hometown club Birmingham City it was something of a fairy tale.
After 11 years at Watford, many of them as captain, Deeney returned to Second Town to play for the club he supports and whose crest he has tattooed on his leg.
But for the first few weeks, it didn’t quite go as planned.
Deeney scored in his second game, a consolation penalty in a 4-1 hammering from Fulham.
He has been in and out of the squad since then, failing to increase his score in his subsequent first appearances and fail to start for the final four.

Still, with Lukas Jutkiewicz at rest against Swansea City today, Deeney not only started the game but also received the captain’s armband.
He responded with an overwhelming second-half performance in which he scored in open play and provided an assist to late winner Riley McGree.
As the man of the moment, Deeney spoke to Blues TV after the game and at one point in a lengthy interview he referred to local Blues rivals Aston Villa.

The forward noted how Villa was beaten by Arsenal on Friday night – as the Blues ended an eight-game winless streak.
And the official Twitter account had a clip of him tweeting, “Villa lost – we won – it’s a good innit weekend?”
The club’s account added: “Yes, that’s right!” while tagging Deeney in their Tweet.
The fans loved it.
A Bluenose said: “A real blue nose! We should appreciate it because it is a rare event! ‘
Another commented; “The big man is not wrong, is he”
A third added, “Haha drink it in” and a fourth said; ‘Nibble nibble nibble nibble nibble nibble’
