Wolverines win in double OT | News, Sports, Jobs

SHERMAN — Darien Swanson scored 28 of his 32 points after halftime to lead Westfield to a 67-65 double-overtime win over Sherman in a Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 West basketball game on Saturday night .

The senior guard also grabbed 10 rebounds, dished out six assists and had five steals and five blocks for the Wolverines (13-1, 7-0).

The Wildcats (5-4, 4-1) led 21-20 at halftime, but Westfield had a chance to win at the end of regulation only to watch rookie Carson Swanson’s 3-pointer at the buzzer come in and out , sending the game into the first extra session tied at 47-all. Thanks to the efforts of Sherman’s Gerald Carris, who finished with 27 points, 13 rebounds and five steals, the Wildcats moved seven points to second place in overtime.

Finally, in the second OT, Westfield took a bit of a lead and held on for the win.

Joining Darien Swanson, who scored 14 points in the two overtime sessions, in double digits for the Wolverines were Cole Holland with 15 points and Carson Swanson with 12. Holland also had seven steals, five rebounds and four assists, and Carson Swanson had added five interceptions. and three assists.

Elijah Kioko had a good all-around game for Sherman, scoring 15 points, grabbing 16 rebounds and blocking three shots. Brayden Hayes felled eight boards.

SMITH DOMINATES FOR NORTH COLLINS

Chris Smith didn’t just run the boards, he figuratively owned them.

The 6-foot-2 senior center had 31 rebounds with 14 points, five steals, five blocks and two assists to lead North Collins to a 52-27 win over Forestville in a CCAA East game.

Matt Sweet added 17 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, two steals and a block, and Derek Ebersole contributed 8 points, four assists and two steals, helping the Eagles improve to 6-4 overall and 2-2 in the division.

Brayden Smith led the Hornets (0-6, 0-2) with 13 points.

North Collins led 16-4 at halftime and never looked back.

LIBBY SHINES FOR THE VALLEY OF THE PINES

SOUTH DAYTON — Wayne Libby had 25 points, eight rebounds, five steals and three assists as Pine Valley beat Franklinville 63-47 in the East Division.

Bryce Sercu added 19 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals while Miles Volk had 11 points, nine rebounds and four steals for Pine Valley (9-1, 4-0). Kordell Oakes had seven rebounds, six assists and five steals for the hosts, who led by three at halftime and by seven after three quarters before beating Franklinville by nine in the fourth quarter.

Blake Frank led Franklinville (7-4, 0-2) with 24 points and six rebounds while Noah Shenk had 11 points and four rebounds.
